Supporting the Board of a public corporation
Background
The newly-appointed Chairman of the Board of a public corporation
commissioned Rachel to organise and facilitate a two-day strategic
development workshop.
Key skills used
· Identifying potential venues
· Event planning and co-ordination
· Liaising with high level executives
· Preparing meeting papers
· Minute-taking
Details of the project
Location: Researched potential venues; visited
short-listed venues; liaised with the selected venue prior to, during
and after the event (eg: setting out detailed requirements, negotiating
charges, checking final bill).
Content: Liaised with members of the Board to
establish the issues to be covered; developed papers in consultation
with the Chairman; collated and disseminated meeting papers.
Event facilitation: Liaised with executives outside
of the corporation in respect of their contributions to specified
sessions; ensured all participants had full details of the arrangements
for the event; took minutes during all sessions and produced minutes
immediately following the event.
Outcome
The event took place to schedule, and to budget, with all agenda
items covered, and all agreed actions recorded in a format which
the Board then adopted as a new tool to help monitor and progress
issues of strategic importance. All participants agreed that the
event had been valuable, and should be repeated at least annually.
Case study update
The event was indeed repeated nine months’ later, and Rachel
was again commissioned to make all the arrangements and to facilitate.
